“No Boat”

Absorbing God’s Word

“Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” So, they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place.” Mark. 6:31-32

Applying God’s Word

A while ago, Louise asked me how I wanted to celebrate my 75th birthday. I told her that I would like the two of us to get away by ourselves to a solitary place and make a quiet four-day retreat with Jesus. A car will have to do because there is no boat.

This month, we will be at a local retreat center doing just that. There will be no cell phones, I-pads, computers, televisions, etc. We are both very excited to spend some quiet time with Jesus.

Every day, Louise and I do find some quiet time to spend with Jesus. Unfortunately, throughout the day, there are hundreds of distractions competing for our attention, things like phone calls, e-mails, texts, TV programs, deliveries, and household chores. The list is long.

To be honest, I feel a little selfish, but we both want/need more time alone with Jesus. Pray that the enemy is not successful in trying to derail our plans.

Accounting of God’s Word

When was the last time I went away by myself to a quiet place with Jesus?
