Absorbing God Word
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
Applying God’s Word
With Thanksgiving coming up, I found myself recalling moments that I look back on with incredible gratitude.
It was about this time of the year in 1964, when I received my military draft notice. I had just graduated high school. I was still a kid, but I now awakened to the reality that I was old enough to go to war.
I remember sitting in my bedroom staring at the notice through tears. I was angry and frightened. My father entered the room, sat down next to me and put his arm around me. He said, “Jack. I want you to go down and enlist in the Navy.” It was his way of protecting me from being drafted into the Army.
If God ever had an audible voice, He used it to speak wisdom through my dad. I did exactly what my dad suggested. I came home four years later, while several of my friends who had been drafted into the Army did not.
