Proverbs 18:24 – “Who Is My Brother”?

Absorbing God’s Word

“One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” Proverbs 18:24

Applying God’s Word

This scripture is almost too true for me to read. Why? I guess it makes me glance across the years of my life and look at relationships. I’ve had many so-called friends that I hung out with for all the wrong reasons.

What friend can be closer than a brother or sister? The men and women that have invested themselves spiritually and emotionally in my life. These are people that know me well enough to challenge me, but do it lovingly. They know when I’m doing well or not so well. They are the ones that look in my eyes and recognize sadness or joy.

Instead of abandoning me when times get tough, they surround me with support and love until my personal storm passes. They cover me and my family in prayer. Their kindness doesn’t look for reciprocation. They keep no record of my mistakes or weaknesses.

To have these kinds of friends, I am called to be this kind of friend.

Accounting of God’s Word

What Kind of friend am I?
