Absorbing God’s Word
“In humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” Philippians 2: 3
Applying God’s Word
Does this mean the interests of others in business, too?
Prior to my relationship with Jesus, I cared way too much about my own interests, especially in business. I have always tried to do the best job possible for my customers, but my sole motivation for owning a business was to earn lots of money.
The monetary success was exciting, but the happiness I experienced from it was very brief. Money was not making my world or me better. Something had to change and I knew that change had to start with me.
So, thirty years ago, I made a commitment of 5-10 minutes of prayer daily. I would talk to God, read a little scripture, review my weaknesses from the prior day and then ask God for his forgiveness. At the end of the first month, I notice a slight change of heart. I have been praying daily ever since.
True humility comes by knowing Jesus, which in turn produces a happiness that selfishness will never know.
Accounting of God’s Word
Are my own interests more important than the interests of the Lord; the interests of those He has placed in my life? How’s my prayer life?
