Matthew 4:19 – “Sounds Fishy” ?

Absorbing God’s Word

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” Matthew 4:19

Applying God’s Word

When I said yes to follow Jesus, my intent was not to fish for people. My intent was to get holy. I’ve come to believe that it’s very difficult to call myself a follower of Christ and not invite others to the party.

I can remember fishing with my dad. He would get me all set up, put the bait on the hook and allow me to cast the line out into the water. When I got a bite, he would help me real the fish in, hold the net under the fish, place it gently in the boat and remove the hook from the fishes’ mouth.

I never go fishing for people without God along. He sets everything up in advance. Sometimes, I am the love that baits His hook. Other times He casts me out into an ocean of people, seeking one special fish. He may use me to real a person in, catch them in the net or place them gently at the foot of His cross. It really doesn’t matter where I am used in the process.

Once we go fishing with Jesus we are hooked for life.

Accounting of God’s Word

Have I allowed Jesus to take me fishing yet?
