Proverbs 1:30-31 “Full Circle” ?

Absorbing God’s Word

“Since they would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke, they will eat the fruit of their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.” Proverbs 1:30-31

Applying God’s Word

I was in my early thirties when I opened my own business. I was not walking with the Lord at the time and I was very full of myself. I was good at what I did, knew what I wanted to accomplish and I marched to my own drumbeat.

We have a tendency to come full circle, huh? I’m seventy years old now and many of my customers are in their mid-thirties. It’s like looking in a mirror. I see little clones of myself running here and there, texting, multi-tasking, driving 90MPH in a 65MPH zone.

Recently, I told a customer what they needed to hear and not what they wanted to hear. The president of the company, in his thirties, didn’t agree with what I advised. Without hesitation, he moved his business to an advisor who would accommodate his wishes.

After forty years of doing what I do, I am certain my former customer will experience a financial setback. Many of us have learned by our mistakes, having not accepted good advice. Being open to good advice, however, can often eliminate eating the fruit of our ways.

Accounting of God’s Word

Am I open to good advice from those around me? Do I know what it means to eat the fruit of my ways or to be filled with the fruit of my schemes?
